Senior thesis collection: Älva the Huntress
Senior thesis collection inspired by Swedish folklore and the folklore illustrations by John Bauer in the early 1900s. Looking at the silhouette of how he depicts trolls in his illustrations. Älva is a forest fairy, spirit that lives among the trolls in the Swedish winter forest. The trolls taught her how to hunt, forage, knit, and sew for survival in the harsh winters. Researching historical Swedish folk wear, folk stories, traditional Swedish embroidery, and Scandinavian way of life. All materials are sourced second-hand or from a small independent farm for sheep wool and alpaca wool. I use materials that you would see in a Scandinavian home, like a ram skin fur for a chair. I am half Swedish, through my mother, so this project is very personal to me and being able to learn more about my heritage.
